Midcentury Modern® is back

This March, Midcentury Modern® returns with its heady mix of modern and vintage ready to kickstart Spring. Bring on the sun with Living Room’s sunflower yellow sofa part of a fabulous range of midcentury-inspired designs including sumptuous wool sofas and armchairs in ochres, rich reds and moss greens made by a designer who used to work for Made.
You can be sure Joanne Coe has sourced the best producers and upholsterers across Europe to breathe life into her designs. Inspired by British design greats Robin Day and Ernest Race, Coe wants to emulate midcentury designers with heir focus on integrity of materials and properly crafted pieces that are made to last. She joins Chris Twigg of Fine Modern Furniture, Barnby Designs, Sam Ring, Design Bros and Melver in the contemporary room on the Brutalist mezzanine level overlooking the main hall of this light filled Sixties building with its acoustic wall and floor to ceiling windows.
Bright colours lift the spirit at Beldi with Moroccan Berber and Boucherite rag rugs sourced by ex-interior designer Emma Wilson and former costume designer Tamsin Wright. Tamsin and Emma were introduced by Tamsin’s new husband who invited her to a party at Emma’s house in Essaouira for their first date. Once Emma showed Tamsin the rugs she had been stockpiling and stuffing in cupboards when she could not find space for them in her home (seen below), Tamsin fell for the stories behind each unique rug (often made by a husband for his prospective wife and passed down through generations). She suggested joining forces and selling them in the UK.
And head to Barbara Spence for Modernist inspired jewellery in silver and semi precious stones who says , “My work is grounded in the geometry of the physical world. From planets held in orbit, to the motion of waves: I explore the simplicity of shape, curve and rhythms that occur naturally and the relationship between bodies creating space or collision.
There are plenty more designers besides including stunning wallpaper from Goga Goga and Louise Body plus fabulous wall hangings from the likes of One Nine Eight Five and Someday Designs. Artyfactz will be displaying glassware and Harriet Caslin will be showing her gorgeous ceramic hanging lamps plus funky prints and textiles from Mustard & Ivy and much more on the day.
Lest we forget we also have 60 plus fabulous midcentury dealers in furniture and smalls like the Jens Quistgaard teak ice bucket below, a Viking take on a rice paddy lunch box.
Making a welcome return to Midcentury Modern® is The Modern Warehouse, with some beautiful pieces like this stunning mahogany sideboard by Svend Langkilde and a heap of knowledge on Danish furniture and lighting especially.
And Twentieth Century Antiques from Edinburgh who specialise in the work of Hans Wegner.
