With Brexit looming, we at Modern Shows believe that never has it been more important to focus on the excellence of our home grown talent.

Multi-award winning silversmith and jeweller, James Dougall (above),  exhibits internationally as well as at the V&A and Goldsmiths Hall. Although he came late to the world of designer silversmithery after a successful career in fine art and antiques James has won a heap of accolades. He had the privilege of studying under world-renowned silversmith and engraver Malcolm Appleby and legendary silversmith Stuart Devlin. His collection showcases new and exciting designs in silver accentuated with other materials.

Returning to the show is Margaret Howell and Robin Day Foundation favourite Mourne Textiles, who have featured on Inside Modernism before. Founded by Norwegian midcentury designer Gerd Hay-Edie in the 1950’s. Hay-Edie collaborated with everyone from The Days to Gordon Russell and Terence Conran winning numerous awards for her fabrics. Fifty years on Mourne Textiles now has Hay-Edie’s grandson Mario at the helm, who with his mother produces sumptuous midcentury inspired hand-woven fabrics for the home often taken from much-loved designs from the Mourne archives.

Friends since school, Biggs and Quail  got together to create individually handcrafted pieces in woods like walnut that would last the way midcentury pieces were built to be handed down from generation to generation. Sharing a passion for good design and craftsmanship, the pair have worked together for over 10 years. Sick of mainstream mass-produced  throwaway furniture they teamed up to produce handcrafted furniture in 2013 and continue to focus on enduring quality, practicality and elegant simplicity.

 Another Studio create beautiful original homewares for contemporary life, based in central London they are constantly inspired by the incredible architecture and ever changing character of the city. They love to work with sheet material; be it paper, metal or wood, mixing machine and handmade processes and enjoy the challenge of transforming something flat into a 3D form. 

New to the show are environmentally conscious contemporary husband and wife team, Monica and Simon Cass of Par Avion who design pieces that weave classic sensibilities with artisan techniques inspired by midcentury greats including Hans Wegner and Jens Quistgaard. A team of local craftsmen in carpentry, basket making and seat weaving create timeless pieces that are made to be treasured for years to come. Look for beautiful locally-sourced bog oak and Danish cord stools and willow skein trays.

HAM also returns with quirky ceramic and paper art following the life of ‘rabbit’ stocked at Liberty’s, Wendy Kaye with her colourful Scandinavian style textiles, GAS gallery with original artwork, Kevin Dutton‘s beautiful plant photographs, Sophie Home and Redpen Prints.
