Valentine surprise at Nobu

Who needs red roses when you can get your very own valentine ceramic?

If you are lucky enough to get an invitation to Nobu in Berkeley Street this Valentine’s Day you will become proud owner of this dimpled double-lipped cocktail jug with pink interior and sipping cups created by a potter very close to our hearts.

Linda Bloomfield, one of the earliest designers to show at the Midcentury Modern show, was recently commissioned to come up with something tactile mixologist Flavio Carenzi could use to serve up his latest love-inspired cocktail. We think she has done a lovely job.

Located over two floors Nobu in Berkeley St  was designed by the celebrated designer David Collins, who sadly died last year.

Linda, who will be showing at Midcentury Modern on Sunday 16th March may not be an obvious match for these glitzy interiors (which would bring out the party animal in the quietest mouse) but her pottery with its Japanese-infused aesthetic is the perfect compliment to the food.

Her pottery heroes Eva Zeisel, Lucie Rie and Bauhausers Grete Marks and Marguerite Wildenhain all loved early Japanese ceramics and Linda herself once had a research position in Japan for Nippon Electric Company in her former incarnation as a graduate of engineering.

She has since made all sorts of tableware for customers including Liberty, Grayshott Pottery and David Mellor and written many books on pottery, glazes and contemporary tableware. Last year Bloomfield  designed everything from espresso mugs to cake stands for new Cafe Bar Rhubarb, situated in the Royal Albert Hall. See some of the pieces above.

Expect to see all sorts of dimples and interesting colour matches at the fast approaching Midcentury Modern too where she will be showing off her wares in the upper gallery. Snap her up. You are looking at a future collectable.

Lucky lovestruck Valentine’s day diners.
