Dear Diary
Sunday 1st December is less than a month away so don’t forget to mark it as a Midcentury Modern must-see as the vintage-interested and designer folk clash in a war of the titans over the kind of highly collectable pieces that have Conran and Heals buyers visiting for inspiration.
To add to the usual Midcentury Masterpieces and home ephemera expect an incredible line up of contemporaries including Mini Moderns, Galapagos, Barnby and Day, Broomley Furniture, Peter Ibruegger, Joanna Corney, Maxine Sutton, Wintersmoon, Angele Lautier and one of the hits of our Design Junction Pop Up back in September Lovely Pigeon.
James Tattersall’s stunning mix of formica and wood (above) had buyers flocking to his stand at the Design Junction Pop Up.
Meet designers like James above and partner Katy Goutefangea with lovely launches of new products. Witness the relaunch of a Norwegian midcentury textiles supremo upstairs (read all about it on INSIDE MODERNISM next week) and prepare to be dazzled by a greedy glut of pieces from the Midcentury greats with sixty five knowledgable dealers downstairs and throughout the arched buildings selling the best furniture, vintage clocks, fabrics from Lucienne Day and Barbara Brown, prints from Sixties Masters including Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore, posters from the best illustrators of the last century including Charley Harper and books about Bauhaus and beyond. Plus enough Mies, Tapio, George, Hans, Ray and Charles, Arne and Alvaar to keep you busy for the whole day.
Spot the exact replica of Ernest Shackleton’s legendary boat. Chat looms with textile designers, printing with the Mini Mods boys, ask furniture and lighting designer Martin Broomley about his days flying to inspect oil rigs in the North Sea by helicopter, see if you can spot a design celebrity like Russell Pinch or Matthew Hilton and eat floury baps filled with slow roasted marinated PORK with a Taco Truck chaser before heading for Dulwich Picture gallery, Dulwich Park or the fabulous Horniman museum.
This is not your normal Sunday, which is why people who love buying for their eclectic homes flock to this one day show from France, Holland and Italy as well as different parts of the UK.

Designer Orla Keily calls Midcentury Modern “Design Heaven” and ‘Luxury’ telegraph dubs the show “a major destination for lovers of mid-century style”
Here’s what else The Telegraph said just yesterday:
Whether you’re a keen investor or just love to dot a few less expensive midcentury pieces around your abode, this gathering of midcentury dealers and modern designers is a must visit. The much-lauded fair, which has been a fixture since 2002, exudes a collective air of passion for the pieces and a love of design.
Many of the 20th century’s big hitters will be represented, from Aarnio and Jacobsen to Panton and Wegner, interspersed with interesting modern designers such as Snowden Flood and Catherine Tough. Browse an inspiring range of pieces, including furniture, glass, ceramics, rugs, jewellery and fabrics, all in the beautiful setting of the 19th-century Dulwich College.
